Gopher student-athletes break GPA records
With resources like the Land O’Lakes, Inc. Center for Excellence, University of Minnesota student-athletes continue to excel at historic levels in the classroom.
According to the John and Nancy Lindahl Academic Center, Minnesota student-athletes combined to average a school-record 3.33 grade point average (GPA) during the fall semester of 2019, representing 104 majors across the University of Minnesota system. This is the fourth straight semester that the cumulative GPA has increased, with every program averaging above a 3.10 for the first time.
Minnesota's record performance in the classroom also coincides with the recent opening of the world-class Athletes Village. The transcendent facility opened in January 2018 and directly benefits every student-athlete on campus, as it provides ample space for student-athletes to study, train, and eat.
This includes the Land O’Lakes, Inc. Center for Excellence, an innovative facility that hosts essential programs supporting student athletes, including:
- 400+ student-athlete tutoring sessions per week in the Lindahl Academic Center
- Mock and practice interviews to prepare student-athletes for careers after sport, hosted in interview rooms on the sixth floor of the Center for Excellence
- Leadership and teamwork seminars reinforcing the skills and values taught through athletics that can help anyone succeed in business
Thank you, Land O’Lakes, for supporting academic excellence for Gopher student-athletes!
