Land O’Lakes sponsors great opportunities at Global Youth Institute

Seven Minnesota high school students traveled to the Global Youth Institute competition to present their ideas, learn more about pressing food and agricultural issues, and interact with World Food Prize Laureates and experts from around the world. Land O’Lakes sponsorship made it possible for the students to attend the institute in Des Moines, Iowa, in October.

The prestigious Global Youth Institute is held in conjunction with the annual World Food Prize, which has come to be known as the “Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture.” The high school students were selected because of their impressive presentations on global food issues at the Minnesota Youth Institute last spring. Land O’Lakes is a major sponsor of the Institute presentations, which were held on the U of M campus.

At the Global Youth Institute, the students appeared before a panel of experts, proposing their solution to a food security problem in India, Bolivia, Tunisia, Argentina, Burkina Faso, or Tanzania. The panel consisted of university professors and Jeanie Borlaug Laube, daughter of Norman Borlaug, Nobel Prize recipient and founder of the World Food Prize. By participating, students also are eligible to apply for internships or fellowships at locations around the world.
